The CO2 content of exhaled air provides a measure of whether an animal on a respirator is getting adequate tidal volume and breath rate. The percentage of CO2 in air exhaled into a mask can also be monitored with freely breathing animals under anesthesia to detect if the level of anesthesia is dangerously deep.
Suitable For Rats
This CO2 monitor is designed for use in the research laboratory. It provides continuous accurate measurement of CO2 over the range of 0-10% CO2. The rapid response time and moderate sample flow requirements make this instrument suitable for use with any size animal, even the small rodents commonly used in laboratory research. Halothane and Isoflurane do not affect the signal, making these instruments appropriate for use with any of the gas anesthesia instruments and/or any of the respirators in this catalog.
Nitrous oxide (N2O) gas slightly interferes with detection of CO2 depending upon the concentration of N2O and CO2. An internal jumper set for the planned concentration of N2O completely compensates for the presence of N2O and restores CO2 measurements to full accuracy.
Heated Sample Cell
The miniature infrared optical analyzer in the sample cell is exceptionally stable, requires little maintenance and provides a linear output voltage. The sample cell is heated to a controlled, regulated temperature to prevent moisture condensation from breath, and to control for any thermal effects on the sensor.
Choice of Displays
The instrument can be set to display CO2 concentration in percent, or in mm Hg. The displayed value can be the maximum CO2 concentration reached at the end of each breath, or the continuous, rapid response, value of CO2 concentration.
The sensor is in a remote cell, with a cable connection to the main unit. The remote cell is easily accessed for inspection, cleaning or replacement.
The CO2 Monitor comes complete with sample cell, the 50082 Accessory Package containing two moisture traps with male-female Luer-Loc connectors, one 5' sample line with male connectors, and one 2' sample line with NafionR tubing (absorbs condensed moisture).
