The Muscle strip myograph system - 820MS represents state-of-the-art 4-channel myograph system for muscle strips of up to 15 mm in length (=free active muscle between the hooks, about 2-3 mm is needed to clamp the muscle).
»for simultaneous measurements of four isolated skeletal or other muscle preparations«
DMT developed this system for simultaneous measurement of up to four isolated skeletal or other muscle preparations, mounted as a strip between clamp supports in the 800MS system. Now we have we have improved and re-designed the Myo-Interface:
• The heating has been made more accurate down to the individual bath level.
• The operation of the interface has been made even more intuitive and easy to handle. The front switches have been replaced by a graphical color touch-display.
• The menus are easier to navigate, read and similar of what you would see on a PC screen or Mobile phone.
• We have installed a powerful CPU and a large memory to make the 820M future upgradeable.
Several types of mounting supports exist depending on the user's preferences and customized mounting supports can be made upon request. Moreover, because of the rectangular chamber, the muscle unit can also be used for the study of larger strips of various other organs including larger pieces of smooth muscle.
Stimulation electrodes (optional) built into the chamber cover can be used to activate the muscle via field stimulation from a pulse/train stimulator such as the DMT CS200.
Each muscle bath unit, made of aluminum, features a rectangular stainless steel chamber. The segment clamp supports are positioned in the chamber, where one side is attached to the force transducer and the other side to a micropositioner. The sensitive force transducers allow measurements of isometric muscle tension while micropositioners allow the accurate setting of muscle length. Each muscle bath unit has individually controlled gas inflow and suction. The system is automatically heated to a given set temperature above ambient.
»allow measurements of isometric muscle tension«
Following mounting and equilibration, the length-tension relationships of the muscle can be determined. During the actual experiment, the length of the muscle is kept constant, i.e. the muscle is examined under isometric conditions. Compounds are added directly to the chamber and muscle tension is monitored to assess any positive or negative iontropic effect. The bath fluid can be sampled for metabolic factors.
This myograph is well suited for investigations on muscle reactivity and multiple units can be conveniently arranged side-by-side. Force output is available as an unfiltered or filtered analog output or in digital format via an USB connection. Furthermore, due to the 4-channel design it is ideal for work requiring high-throughput screening, such as drug testing or in experiments where separation of muscle preparations in separate baths are necessary.
