This particular "CLAMS" System is a 12 chamber system housed inside an incubator with precise temperature control. Each incubator can house 12 mouse cages. The advantage to running experiment in an incubator such as this is it affords the ability to research metabolic performance at temperatures above or below normal ambient room temperatures. Furthmore, with its precise thermostatic control, the incubator can maintain a thermo-neutral temperature to ensure more stable RER measurements.
Besides environmental control, this system also features our new Automated Food Access Option, Where diets can be controlled via time, mass consumed, or a function of both. This flexibility also allows for "Yoked" or "Paired" feeding experiments.
Lastly, this system employs the High Speed gas sensors on the Oxymax Open Circuit Calorimeter. This allows data to be collected at 13 minute intervals for all 12 cages.
Other options, not shown in this system, are also available. These options include body temperature and heart rate measurements via telemetry, drinking licks, and exercise wheels.
